Wydad Casablanca will chase progression into the final four of the CAF Champions League when they face hosts Etoile du Sahel in Rades on Saturday night in the return leg of their quarterfinal tie. Kick-off at the Olympic Stadium is set for 21:00 CAT.
The first leg at Stade Mohamed V last weekend saw WAC claim a 2-0 win, thanks to a brace of goals from Mohamed Nahiri. It’s a strong lead but not a decisive one for the Moroccan team, who will have to be resilient and determined in the face of a hostile Tunisian crowd in the return game – even if it’s not at ESS’s usual home ground in Sousse.
One man who will definitely have a hostile reception is Wydad coach Juan Carlos Garrido – he was sacked by Etoile earlier in the year! He is expecting his team to have to endure a tough time on Saturday night.
“Confidence was crucial [in the first leg]. The victory is very good for the morale of the players. The next game will be very different and we have to prepare to suffer,” he noted.
ESS counterpart Kais Zouaghi was left a disappointed man but believes there is still everything to play for on home soil.
“It was a very bad result. They were better than us in the duels and we lost a lot of balls. Now we have our backs to the wall and we will have to work hard to catch up. It will not be impossible and we will not play our luck until the end,” he said through gritted teeth.
Senegalese referee Maguette N’Diaye will take charge of the match in Rades. The aggregate winners will advance to face either Al Ahly or Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinal.
