Defending UEFA Champions League champions Liverpool will be counting on African duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to fire them to victory at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

The defending champions head into tonight’s Round of 16 second-leg fixture trailing Atletico Madrid 1-0 on aggregate following defeat in the Spanish capital.

Both Salah and Mane were on target for Liverpool in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth this past weekend and will be raring to go as the Merseyside club eye another historic night in front of their home fans.

In total, the duo have scored 38 goals across all competitions this season while also chipping in with a combined total of 21 assists.

Standing in Liverpool’s way is what promises to be a very organised Atleti side which boasts Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey. The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world this season and will be key to his club’s approach this evening.

Other African stars to keep an eye on is Joel Matip and Naby Keita who both started the reverse fixture on the bench.

In the night’s other Round of 16 fixture, Paris Saint-Germain play host to Borussia Dortmund following a 2-1 win for the German club in the first-leg.

Idrissa Gana Gueye and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting complete Paris Saint Germain’s interest from an African perspective while Dortmund have the in-form Morocco international Achraf Hakimi on their books.
