Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that George Maluleka will join Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season.

The Amakhosi confirmed via their official website that contract negotiations between the Soweto club and the 31-year-old had reached an ‘unexpected ending’.

Maluleka, who joined Chiefs in January 2014, will join the Brazilians at the culmination of the 2019-20 season after penning a pre-contract with the defending Absa Premiership champions.

Chiefs revealed that they had offered Maluleka a two-year contract extension + one-year option to renew his current contract which is set to expire in June, but the midfielder had turned down their proposal.

The former University of Pretoria, SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town midfielder has played 24 times for Chiefs across all competitions this season.

Chiefs currently lead the league standings, seven points clear of second placed Sundowns – but the latter having played two games less than their Gauteng rivals.

Several players have moved between the two clubs in recent seasons with current Chiefs players Khama Billiat, Leonardo Castro and Ramahlwe Mphahlele having swapped Chloorkop for Naturena.
