The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have become the first African country to suspend all football activities due to the Coronavirus, according to a report by KingFut.

Major sports events and leagues all around the world have either been suspended or cancelled in an effort to help fight the spread of the virus, including the Premier League, Major Soccer League and Formula 1.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has recently taken the decision to cancel the scheduled back-to-back rounds of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which would have taken place late this month.

And just a few days after confirming their first case of Coronavirus, DRC has now opted to postpone all professional football for 30 days, starting from Monday 16 March.

The top flight league, which is currently topped by TP Mazembe, will play out a scheduled round this weekend, before being suspended.

However, with the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) still set to be played, DRC have confirmed that the training camp for that competition will go ahead as planned.
