Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel is now a free agent after leaving Trabzonspor.
The two parties have agreed to part ways by mutual consent according to the Turkish Super Lig club’s official website.
This comes after Mikel reportedly refused to play for Trabzonspor in a Super Lig game against Istanbul Basaksehir last weekend.
The central midfielder has been unhappy with the fact that the Super Lig has not been suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak which is ravaging the world.
The Black Sea Storm have since released the following statement:
“The professional football player agreement between our company and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated.”
“With a mutual termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking receivables,” a club statement read.
Mikel secured a move to the Black Sea Storm after signing a two-year deal with the club prior to the start of the current season.
The 32-year-old player has made 19 league appearances for Trabzonspor.
