Odion Ighalo has reportedly been offered a new two-year contract extension worth more than £400,000 per week by Shanghai Shenhua.
According to Sky Sports the Chinese club are eager to reward Ighalo, who is currently on-loan at Manchester United, for his good form.
The former Nigeria international joined the Red Devils from Shenhua on a short-term loan deal in January as cover for their frontline, but the boyhood United fan has quickly climbed into the hearts of the United faithful.
The 30-year-old has scored four goals in eight appearances across all competitions, which has resulted in calls from fans and former players alike for Ighalo to make the move to Old Trafford a permanent one.
This would’ve also prompted Shenhua into offering their forward a fresh deal with Ighalo currently set for a return to China on May 31, although his loan could be extended to June 30 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Ighalo’s current contract in China expires in December 2022, but the Shanghai-club are said to want to keep him on their books for a further two years and having offered him £400,000 a week before tax, they’ll be confident that he passes on a permanent switch to the Premier League.
