Newcastle United and Ghana winger Christian Atsu has expressed outrage at the suggestion that Africans will be used as the first test subjects for a possible Covid-19 vaccine.

Atsu has joined African football legends Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba in fury at two French medical practitioners, who made the remarks on television, according to Goal.

“During a programme on French television station LCI, professor Jean-Paul Mira, head of the intensive care unit at Cochin hospital (Paris), and Professor Camille Locht, research director at Inserm suggested the effectiveness of the vaccine should be tested first in Africa ,” Atsu posted on Twitter.

“They are not even ashamed of themselves. They want to test the new vaccine first in Africa.”

The coronavirus has infected over 1million people worldwide and caused over 50,000 deaths. Several vaccines and medications are being tested for possible use in the fight against the disease, which has caused lockdowns and brought an end to virtually all social, cultural and sporting activity around the world.
