Al Ahly coach Rene Weiler has declared that he intends to remain in Cairo through the coronavirus crisis.
Football across the African continent and most of the rest of the world has ground to a halt due to the spread of Covid-19, but Weiler wants to stay in Egypt and continue whatever work he can manage with Ahly, rather than return home to Switzerland.
“Logically, I prefer to be with my family, but fortunately I am okay and I have responsibilities here in Egypt, especially that we don’t know what will happen in the near future,” Weiler told Swiss daily newspaper Tagblatt, as quoted by Ahram Online.
“I will continue working with Ahly. I am working to develop the team, my trainings tool and my personal skills,” he added.
“I am also doing more reading and performing sports in the fitness room in the hotel, and I have more time to think.”
The 46-year-old has had a major impact on Ahly since arriving at the beginning of the season: the Cairo giants are comfortably on top of the Egyptian Premier League and through to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League.
