The father of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has confirmed talks between his son and Premier League giants Arsenal.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly prioritising a central midfielder in the summer transfer window and the 26-year-old Ghanaian star has long been linked with a switch to the Emirates.
Partey’s father Jacob claims that his son has confirmed that conversations are ongoing with the club, and says he would be delighted to see the player move to London.
“I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true,” Jacob Partey is quoted by the Daily Mail [https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8245823/Arsenal-talks-Atletico-Madrid-sign-Thomas-Partey-according-players-father.html].
“He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot supporters in Ghana.”
Jacob Partey added: “I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.”
Partey last played in March in Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Champions League victory over Liverpool at Anfield, a result which ended the Reds’ reign as European kings.
