Ghana international Rahim Ayew says his younger brother, Andre deserves to captain the Black Stars on a permanent basis.
Andre captained the Black Stars during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Egypt.
The Swansea City midfielder-cum-striker replacement Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer Asamoah Gyan as Ghana captain having previously served as the vice-captain.
“We talked about it as brothers but even before then,” Rahim said on Goal.
“I had been advising him to captain the team when the need arises and when he feels it’s the right time to lead the national team.
“It was clear from 2018 that my brother was going to be the captain because he was captaining the team when Asamoah Gyan was injured,” he added.
“In the qualifiers [for Afcon 2019], he captained the team because Gyan was injured at that time.
“So, if the coach [Kwesi Appiah] made him the captain, there was nothing wrong with it.”
Andre has played 86 international matches for Ghana and scored 15 goals in the process.
