Algeria international Andy Delort has welcomed the decision to declare the 2019/20 French Ligue 1 season null and void.
The 28-year-old striker has enjoyed his football at Montpellier HSC where is the leading scorer with nine goals in 26 games.
However, the season has been cancelled due to the coronavirus which has infected over three million people globally and killed many.
“I think it makes sense, it’s the best solution. As we can see, there are still cases [of coronavirus],” Delort told RMC Sport.
“It’s way too dangerous to be attacked right away so it’s a wise decision. For me, it is certain that we should not resume.
“Not just us, for our families, our loved ones.”
The Ligue 1 management is yet to announce whether Paris Saint Germain (PSG), who have a 12-point lead atop the log, will be declared champions or not.
Montpellier are placed eighth on the log and Delort gave his view on how the campaign should end.
“In addition, they will freeze the calendar on the 27th day so it’s good,” he added.
“More seriously, it would make sense even if it suits me. The 28th day was not over, so we have to stop the championship on the 27th day.”
