Liverpool legend John Barnes is of the opinion that the club wouldn’t sign Timo Werner as a replacement for either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, but rather to add depth to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Talking to BonusCodeBets as reported by Goal.com, Barnes explained that he can’t see either of the African stars leaving Anfield at the end of the season.
Both Salah and Mane have been heavily linked with a move away from the club in the past with Real Madrid said to have expressed interest in both attackers. The attacking pair, though, are both signed to the Reds until 2023
“He’s not going to replace anyone,” Barnes said on persisting rumours linking RB Leipzig forward Werner with a move to Liverpool.
“He’s coming to be part of the squad, I don’t think Klopp’s going to drop any of the front three for him.
“Of course, I don’t know if that is what may necessarily happen. If Salah, Mane or [Roberto] Firmino goes, we don’t know, so I don’t think he’s coming in to replace anyone, he’s coming to be part of a squad.”
Salah and Mane have scored 168 goals between them for Liverpool and have played an integral part in the club’s growing success over the past few seasons.
