Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o says Brazilian football icon Ronaldo was better than him.
The retired marksman was regarded by pundits as one of the best strikers in the world and he is regarded as one of the greatest African players of all time.
Popularly dubbed O Fenômeno (The Phenomenon), Ronaldo is widely considered one of the best football players of all time.
“The best of all was Ronaldo, ‘O Fenomeno’,” Eto’o was quoted as saying in a live chat by AS.
The 39-year-old indicated that his former FC Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi is the best footballer in the world and he also backed Paris Saint Germain (PSG)’s Kylian Mbappe.
“The best current players? I’d have to go with Lionel Messi, who’s more experienced, and Kylian Mbappe, who’s the youngster making the biggest impression,” he said.
“I think he’s going to be the chief global star in the years to come.”
Eto’o reflected on the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup in which he scored a stunning goal against Brazil which earned Cameroon the victory.
“My favourite goal was the one I scored against Brazil in the Confederations Cup,” he added.
“It was the first time my mother had come to see a game at the stadium and I was able to say, “Thanks, Mum,” with a message written on a T-shirt.”
