Nigeria Under-23 international Taiwo Awoniyi is ecstatic after scoring his first goal in the German Bundesliga.

The bulky marksman, who is loan at Mainz 05 from English giants Liverpool FC, netted against FC Cologne over the weekend.

Awoniyi was introduced in the second half and he scored his side’s first goal and ultimately, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

“I’m really happy about scoring my first goal for Mainz! We came back very well as a team today and fought our way back into the match!” Awoniyi told the media.

Awoniyi (22 years 279 days) became the youngest Nigerian to score in the Bundesliga since Anthony Ujah (21 years 21 days) netted against Stuttgart in November 2011, also for Mainz.

Meanwhile, Mainz’s equalising goal was netted by Cameroon international Pierre Kunde Malong.

“I had the ball and I saw that I had some space to shoot. I feel good, it’s great to have helped the team by scoring that goal,” Kunde said.

It was the attacking midfielder’s third league goal of the season having also scored twice against TSG Hoffenheim last November.
