Golden Arrows have confirmed the passing of Nkanyiso Mngwengwe.
The Arrows defender reportedly passed away in the early hours of Monday morning while exact details of his death remain unclear.
Mngwengwe joined Arrows in 2013 and made over 140 appearances for the KwaZulu-Natal club. He captained Abafana Besthende during the course of the 2018/19 season but failed to manage any playing minutes during the current campaign.
“I am saddened by the passing away of Nkanyiso,” Arrows chairperson Mato Madlala said in a club statement. “I remember when he first arrived at Arrows as a promising footballer, full of energy. He was always ready to fight for the team and acquitted himself very well over the years.
“I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Nkanyiso’s family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult moment.”
Arrows currently occupy seventh spot on the Absa Premiership standings with the 2019/20 league season currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
