Two-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning coach Herve Renard has backed Ghana international Jordan Ayew.

The 28-year-old forward has been Crystal Palace’s best player this season having netted eight goals in 28 English Premier League matches.

Having won the AFCON title with Zambia and Ivory Coast, Renard compared Ayew with Ghana’s most capped player (108) and all-time leading goalscorer (51) Asamoah Gyan, who is 34.

“Asamoah Gyan is the past and Jordan Ayew is the future,” Renard told TV3 Ghana according to Goal.

“He is improving and he is working very hard. It is not easy to play in the Premier League and he is doing his best.

“He was my player at Sochaux in the 2013/ 2014 season and he was very young at the time,” the current Saudi Arabia head coach added.

“He does not talk a lot but he is very clever and I like his spirit. He is in my heart and I see him as a son among the Black Stars players.”

Ayew, who has played 67 matches for Ghana and scored 17 goals, is one of the senior players in the current Black Stars squad.

He has scored five goals in his last seven matches for Ghana.
