Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny could remain on the books of Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas for a further year, according to a report from Turkish website FotoMac.

Elneny has spent the 2019-20 season on loan in Istanbul from parent club Arsenal, racking up 19 league appearances and chipping in with two assists.

His loan deal is set to expire at the end of June, but Besiktas are hoping to keep the Pharaohs international on their roster for another season.

FotoMac reports that the 27-year-old has become a key figure under manager Sergen Yalcin and the Turkish club hope to retain his physical presence in the ‘engine room’.

Elneny’s agent, Ömer Uzun, had disclosed a month ago that Besiktas want the midfielder to remain a part of their squad for the upcoming season.

The Egyptian player has also featured for Swiss club Basel and local side Al Mokawloon in his club career.
