Karl Toko Ekambi has completed a permanent move to Lyon.
The French Ligue 1 club announced via their website that the Cameroon international has signed a four-year contract that will keep him contracted to Lyon until 2024.
Ekambi joined Lyon on-loan from Spanish LaLiga club Villarreal in January and despite just playing the 12 games before the coronavirus pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the domestic season, he had done enough to convince head coach Rudi Garcia to offer him a permanent deal.
“This exercise of the purchase option follows the temporary transfer that took place in January 2020,” Lyon wrote on their official website.
“It amounts to €11.5 million to which can be added a maximum of €4 million of incentives as well as a profit-sharing of 15 % on the capital gain of a possible future transfer (50% if the transfer takes place before 15/09/20).
“The final arrival of Karl Toko Ekambi confirms the ambition of Olympique Lyonnais to give itself the means to be at the highest level next season.”
The 27-year-old scored 24 goals in 62 games for Villarreal.
