Egyptian football legend Wael Gomaa says he fully understands the interest being shown in Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer.
The 22-year-old Algerian was the driving force behind his national team’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations just under a year ago – where he was named player of the tournament – and he was rewarded with a move from Empoli to AC Milan ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
The current season has been a learning curve for Bennacer, but he has still shown enough progress and promise to be linked with wealthier clubs than the Rossoneri, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
Gomaa, who won three AFCON titles with Egypt, can see his fellow North African moving on when the current season is wrapped up.
“Ismael Bennacer is one of the best players this season with Milan,” he posted on his Twitter timeline.
“His level develops from one match to another in addition to his distinguished role in the team.
“This one explains the interest of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in him; he also has a beautiful future ahead, God willing.”
