Today, Thursday 11 June 2020, marks the 10-year anniversary of the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The first World Cup tournament held on African soil was a success both on and off the pitch, though Bafana Bafana did make some unwanted history by becoming the first host team which failed to progress beyond the first round.

Nonetheless, South Africa did leave some lasting memories from their 2010 World Cup, the greatest of which is undoubtedly Siphiwe Tshabalala’s beautiful goal in the opening game against Mexico at Soccer City.
