Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly has praised Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso for raising the confidence of the team since taking over.
Gattuso succeeded Carlo Ancelotti in December 2019 and has slowly but surely overseen an improvement in the Neapolitans’ form, with the team returning to action after the lockdown for the first time this past weekend.
On Saturday night they held Internazionale to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio San Paolo to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory in the semifinals of the Coppa Italia. They will face Juventus in the final on Wednesday evening this week.
“We weren’t expecting the Inter goal to come that early, but we reacted well and soaked up pressure to deserve our place in the Final,” Kpoulibaly told RAI Sport, as quoted by TribalFootball.
“Gattuso has given us a real confidence boost, as we had lost faith in ourselves a little bit and he reminded us that we are great players. We had struggled when under pressure, but we know how to suffer now and fight our way through difficulties.
“There is another game coming up with the final in a few days, so we’ll work hard to be ready.”
After facing Juve in midweek, Napoli will return to Serie A action next Tuesday with a match away to Hellas Verona.
