Algeria international Nabil Bentaleb has agreed to extend his stay at Newcastle United.
This is according to Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, who was providing an update on his players with the English Premier League (EPL) having resumed behind closed doors.
Bruce revealed that the club’s three loan players – Bentaleb, Valentino Lazaro and Danny Rose – will stay beyond the end of the month.
Bentaleb joined Newcastle from German side Schalke on a six-month loan deal last January and he made three EPL appearances before the season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic last March.
“We’ve been having ongoing conversations for the last few weeks,” said Bruce on The Shields Gazette.
“We’re all in this unprecedented area. There’s been a lot of dialogue about what we’re going to do with the out-of-contract players.
“All our lads, including the loan players and out-of-contract players, have verbally agreed to stay on and play until the end of the season, which is obviously a good thing.”
Bentaleb has also played for Tottenham Hotspur in the EPL between 2013 and 2015 before moving to Schalke.
