Ahmed Musa made history for club and country on this day in 2018.
The Nigeria international usually saved his best performances for the biggest stage and backed that statement with a superb brace in the Super Eagles’ 2-0 win over Iceland in Volgograd.
Musa not only became the first Leicester City player to score at a World Cup, but his double also made him the highest scoring Nigerian footballer in the tournament’s history. Musa scored two goals at the 2014 showpiece in Brazil and two more in Russia for a total of four, two better than the trio of Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amuneke and Kalu Uche.
Despite the win, Nigeria would fail to advance past the group stages with eventual runners-up Croatia and Argentina taking up the top two spots.
