Morocco international Youssef Ait Bennasser has returned to his parent club, AS Monaco.
This is after Girondins de Bordeaux declined the option to sign the defender on a permanent deal after his loan deal at the club ended.
Ait Bennasser featured in 16 competitive matches for Bordeaux before the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bordeaux released the following statement indicating that the 23-year-old player will not be part of their squad next season.
“FC Girondins de Bordeaux informs you of not exercising the purchase option for Youssef Aït-Bennasser.”
“The player will return to AS Monaco, the club with which he has a contract, at the end of his loan.
“In Bordeaux, the Moroccan international played 16 matches in all competitions (with a decisive pass).
“The club thanks Youssef for his contribution and wishes him the best for the rest of his career,” a club statement read.
Despite being born and raised in France, Ait Bennasser joined the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
The former Saint Etienne and Caen player made his debut for the senior Morocco national football team in a friendly 0-0 tie with Albania in August 2016.
He was named in Morocco’s 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.
