Yesterday, 23 June, marked the 30-year anniversary of Roger Milla’s iconic brace at Stadio San Paolo in Naples, Italy.
Cameroon stunned the football world by beating defending champions Argentina in the opening match of the 1990 FIFA World Cup tournament and would make further history as they became the first African team to reach the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
Milla proved pivotal in the Indomitable Lions’ run to the last eight and cemented his place in history with an extra-time double as the Africans claimed a 2-1 win over Colombia in the Round of 16.
Cameroon would bow out of the tournament following defeat to England at the very same venue a few days later, but their heroics would pass the test of time.
