Former Orlando Pirates and South African international defender Siyabonga Sangweni has expressed his happiness that Thulani Hlatshwayo will be joining the Soweto club from Bidvest Wits.

Hlatshwayo will head to the Buccaneers once the 2019-20 season is completed, with his current club Bidvest Wits set to be renamed and relocated to the Limpopo province as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Pirates beat tough competition from reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns to secure Hlatshwayo’s services and Sangweni believes the player will add further strength to coach Josef Zinnbauer’s steadily improving team.

“We are really playing well. The problem is that we lose concentration towards the end of the second half,” Sangweni is quoted by IOL.

“We forget that we have to defend, although we know that we have to attack. But we have to do it both. Now I am really happy that we’ve signed Hlatshwayo.”

Sangweni enjoyed major success during his time at Pirates, but believes that Hlatshwayo does not represent his ultimate successor, arguing that the new arrival will have his own path to forge.

“He’s not here to replace me. Our style of play is different. He’s here to play his role,” explained Sangweni.

“What’s important is we annihilate the stigma that we can’t play because a certain player is not there. They have to work together, that’s how we succeeded. We always made it a point to communicate.”
