Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed that Swiss coach Rene Weiler will remain with the club after signing a contract extension.
The 46-year-old has done a brilliant job at the Red Devils since succeeding caretaker Mohamed Youssef in August 2019, with the team enjoying a comfortable lead at the top of the Egyptian Premier League and through to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League (both competitions have been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic but are likely to be completed in the coming months).
According to King Fut, Ahly administrator Amir Tawfik has confirmed that Weiler has inked an extension to his contract. The coach’s deal was set to expire at the end of this suspended season, but he will now remain at the club until the end of the 2020-21 season at least.
Securing Weiler’s services will be a relief to Ahly, with the coach having been mentioned as a target for the likes of Dubai’s Al-Ain and Swiss club Grasshoppers.
