Senegal international Sadio Mane says he wants Aston Villa to stave off relegation – so he can continue to score against them.
The speedy attacker was on the scoresheet for Liverpool FC as they secured a 2-0 win over Villa in an English Premier League match on Sunday, July 05.
Mane has now scored six goals in his six Premier League appearances against Villa – four with his former side, Southampton FC adding to this season’s winner at Villa Park in the first round clash.
“We pushed as a team until the end and created some chances. It wasn’t an easy game but at least we deserved these three points,” Mane said on Mirror.
“I think sometimes you can’t expect always to score five or four against a good opponent.
“They were really organised and we were playing patiently until the gaps opened and we scored the two goals.”
The 28-year-old, who has netted 16 goals in the league this season, says they are taking it one game at a time having already won this season’s Premier League title.
“I think it’s a lucky team for me, I’m always scoring and hopefully they stay up so I can score more goals next season for the team,” he added.
“For us right now it is most important to win games, then you can think about records.
“We have important games and we will try to play game by game. It won’t be easy but that is the Premier League – it is always difficult.”
