Steven Gerrard, manager of Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, has hailed the pre-season form of Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo.
The 24-year-old is entering his season with ‘Gers, having signed from Charlton Athletic in mid-2019.
Aribo registered three goals and eight assists from 27 appearances in the 2019-20 Scottish top flight – which was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic – and even more is expected from the player in the 2020-21 campaign.
This past weekend the Super Eagles midfielder scored the opening goal in Rangers’ 2-0 friendly win over Coventry City – a second successive strike for Aribo, who is being backed by Gerrard to play a major role when the new season begins this coming weekend.
“Wherever we play Joe he always tries to make things happen,” Gerrard told reporters, as quoted by RTE.
“He’s come back in a fantastic place. He’s come back fitter, he’s come back focused and all I ask is that he takes his pre-season performances into the season because if he does, he’s going to be a major help for us.”
Rangers open their 2020-21 Premiership season with a clash away to Aberdeen on Saturday 1 August.
