Tagoe: Ayew the man to lead Ghana to glory

Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe believes Andre Ayew will lead the Black Stars to glory.

Ayew was appointed Ghana’s new captain ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Egypt replacing veteran striker Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars are one of the most successful national teams in Africa having won the AFCON title four times.

However, the last time Ghana won the AFCON trophy was in 1982 and Tagoe has backed Wales-based forward Ayew.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Andre Ayew leads the Black Stars to win a cup,” Tagoe said on Afrique Sports.

“He is a strong leader and very dedicated. He gives his all whenever he is on the pitch and you can see how he motivates the players as well.”

Tagoe, who is a former TSG Hoffenheim striker, played with Ayew at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.

The 33-year-old player is currently on the books of Chittagong Abahani in Bangladesh and the last time he played for Ghana was in 2012 against Mali.

While Ayew is on the books of Welsh club Swansea City, who are campaigning in the English Championship.

The 30-year-old player was named 2011 BBC African Footballer of the Year and he has played 88 matches for Ghana and netted 15 goals.
