Burkina Faso international Issa Kabore has completed his move to former English champions Manchester City.
The 19-year-old defender has joined the Citizens from Belgian outfit KV Mechelen on a five-year deal.
Kabore, who is a right-back by trade, becomes City’s first signing of the summer transfer window following the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
However, former Rahimo FC player will remain at his current club for the next 12 months.
City released the following statement on the club’s official website:
“Manchester City have completed the signing of Issa Kaboré from Mechelen, subject to international clearance.”
“The 19-year-old, who plays as a right-back, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal but will remain at Mechelen on loan for the duration of the 2020-21 season.”
“Born in Burkina Faso, he played five matches in Belgium’s top-flight last term.”
“Everyone at City would like to extend a warm welcome to Issa and we all wish him well during his time at the club,” a club statement read.
The former Burkina Faso under-20 international has joined fellow African player and Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez on the books of City.
He made his debut for Burkina Faso’s senior national football team in a friendly 0-0 tie with DR Congo on 9 June 2019.
