Belgian star Dries Mertens has vowed to help Nigeria international Victor Osimhen to adapt to the Italian Serie A.
Osimhen has reportedly undergone medical examinations with SSC Napoli and it is said that a deal of around €81 million has been agreed.
The 21-year-old marksman’s current club, OSC Lille are ready to sell him after he impressed in the French Ligue 1 last season.
Mertens, who is a prolific striker, is looking forward to playing with Osimhen at the team nicknamed the Little Donkeys.
“Of course yes [I will help Osimhen]. We can also play together,” Mertens told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Not knowing the language and the championship will take him some time, we must all be close to him.”
The 33-year-old Mertens is considered to be a legend at Napoli where he has scored 125 goals in 235 competitive matches.
As a result, Mertens, who represented Belgium at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia, is Napoli’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Osimhen will join fellow African stars Kalidou Koulibaly and Faouzi Ghoulam, who are on the books of Little Donkeys.
Ghoulam is an Algerian left-back, while Koulibaly is a Senegalese central defender.
