Crystal Palace’s main transfer plans for the current offseason may hinge on one African star replacing another.
According to The Sun, the Premier League club are looking at Watford and Senegal attacker Ismaila Sarr as a possible replacement for Ivorian Wilfried Zaha – should the latter leave the club in the coming weeks.
Zaha has been strongly linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, with manager Roy Hodgson admitting earlier this year that the Eagles were likely to finally lose their talismanic attacker.
Sarr was linked with Palace before the start of the 2019-20 campaign, but ultimately Watford splashed out £30m to bring the Senegalese star from French side Rennes.
Should Palace sell Zaha for big money, they could easily reinvest that cash in bringing Sarr to south London, where he can link up with fellow Senegalese Cheikhou Kouyate, as well as Ghanaians Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp.
Sarr was one of the Hornets’ few bright spots in a grim season that ended in relegation to the Championship, but it is expected that he and many of his more valuable teammates will be picked off in the transfer market before the start of 2020-21.
The 22-year-old Teranga Lions player racked up five goals and six assists in 28 appearances for struggling Watford last season.
