Kaizer Chiefs will resume their quest to win the 2019/20 Absa Premiership title when they host Bidvest Wits at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday 12 August 2020, kick-off at 18h00 CAT.
Chiefs, when they were last in league action, suffered a surprise 1-0 loss at home to relegation-threatened AmaZulu on March 7 – just a fourth defeat of the season for the Soweto giants. The Amakhosi have claimed 22 points from 10 home matches so far this campaign.
Wits returned to winning form in the league by defeating Black Leopards 1-0 at home on March 10, with Terrence Dzvukamanja netting the only goal of the game. The Clever Boys have claimed 20 points from 10 away matches in the 2019/20 campaign.
In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Wits have met in 66 league matches since 1985. The Amakhosi have claimed 32 wins compared to 13 for the Clever Boys, while 21 matches have been drawn. The Soweto side has won 13 and lost 10 of their 32 home matches in the rivalry.
The teams’ league meetings last season both ended in away wins: Wits triumphed 3-1 at FNB Stadium in August 2018, but Chiefs gained revenge with a 2-0 win at the Bidvest Stadium in January 2019 with goals from Leonardo Castro and Hendrick Ekstein.
Chiefs’ line-up from their 1-0 loss to AmaZulu on March 7: Akpeyi, Frosler, Ntiya-Ntiya (Kambole 74′), Cardoso, Mathoho, Akumu (Billiat 46′), Maluleka, Baccus (Parker 46′), Manyama, Castro, Nurkovic.
