Orlando Pirates are set to take disciplinary action against Thembinkosi Lorch and Justin Shonga for a breach of the team’s protocols.
The Buccaneers announced before their 0-0 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday that the attacking duo will face the club’s disciplinary committee after breaking bio-bubble regulations.
Pirates confirmed that both players will be afforded the opportunity to return to play once their respective disciplinary processes have been finalised.
Both players will be required to undergo two Covid-19 tests, which both must be negative, as per the BSE protocols dictate, before they resume any club activities.
Lorch is the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season, but has failed to replicate that sort of form in the 2019/20 campaign. The attacker has scored just once in 17 league appearances and looks far off the player that lit up the Absa Premiership last year.
The 27-year-old’s exploits last season earned him interest from Europe, but a move failed to materialise.
Shonga has also been far off the pace in the current campaign. Having played over 40 games for Pirates across all competitions last season, the Zambian has played just 11 games this season and is yet to find the back of the net.
