Crystal Palace and Ivory Coast star Wilfried Zaha should be playing in the UEFA Champions League, according to club teammate Andros Townsend.
The 27-year-old Zaha failed to make a major impression when he had a shot at a big club – Manchester United – several years ago, but he has become one of the Premier League’s most consistent and effective attackers in the colours of Crystal Palace.
Zaha has racked up 30 goals and 31 assists in the past four Premier League seasons, inevitably attracting transfer attention.
It appears that this offseason will be the one in which the Eagles finally lose the services of the Elephants player.
And while Townsend hopes that Zaha will stick around at Selhurst Park for at least one more year, he readily admits that the Ivorian should be playing at a much higher level.
“Wilfried Zaha could play for the very best in the world,” the former Tottenham Hotspur winger told talkSPORT.
“He’s the most talented player I’ve ever played with and he should be playing in the Champions League.
“I’m very grateful that we have him at Palace, everyone at the club is grateful, and if we have him beyond this window we’d be even more grateful!
“If that’s the case I’m sure he’ll knuckle down and have another great season.
“He deserves to be playing at the highest level, but as long as he’s a Palace player and I’m hopeful it does continue beyond this window, we’re grateful and delighted to have him.”
