Ghana head coach CK Akonnor has advised Thomas Partey to snub offers from English giants Arsenal FC.
The Ghanaian central midfielder is reportedly on the radar of the former Premier League champions after impressing at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
There is a speculated £45 million release clause on Partey’s contract at Atletico where he has established himself as a key player.
Atletico have qualifed for next season’s UEFA Champions League, while Arsenal will be competing in the UEFA Europa League.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football. His position is guaranteed and he will always play,” Akonnor said on Citi Sports.
“With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join the Gunners].
“I hope that, and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.”
Partey has spent most of his career with Atletico, making over 150 competitive appearances and he helped the team reach the 2019/20 Champions League semi-finals.
The lanky player also helped the Mattress Makers clinch the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018.
A full Ghana international since 2016, he has represented the Black Stars at two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
