Cape Town City will look to frustrate Mamelodi Sundowns when the teams meet in an Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Monday 17 August 2020, kick-off at 18h00.

City resumed competitive football with a 1-0 win away to Chippa United on August 14, with Kermit Erasmus’ early goal securing their first victory on the road this season. The Citizens have claimed 21 points from 12 home matches so far this season.

Sundowns recorded a second league draw since the restart when they were held 1-1 at Highlands Park on August 14. The Brazilians have taken 19 points from 11 away matches in the 2019/20 campaign.

In head-to-head stats, City and Sundowns have met in seven league matches since 2016/17. The Citizens have claimed four wins compared to two for the Brazilians, while just one game has been drawn. The Cape Town side has recorded two wins and one defeat from three home matches in the rivalry.

When the teams met earlier this season, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium back in August 2019, they played to a 1-1 draw: Hlompho Kekana gave ‘Downs an early lead, but the Citizens replied inside the opening half hour through Dove Edmilson.

City’s line-up from their 1-0 win over Chippa on August 14: Leeuwenburgh, Fielies, Mobara, Edmilson, Mkhize (Seedat 46′), Mdantsane (Ndondo 84′), Nodada, Roberts (Makola 65′), Lakay (Kewuti 85′), Erasmus (Morris 59′), Ralani.

Sundowns’ line-up from their 1-1 draw with Highlands on August 14: Onyango, Maboe, Langerman, Nascimento (Arendse 79′), Madisha, Coetzee, Mkhulise, Kekana (Laffor 90’+2), Sirino (Lakay 90’+2), Zwane (Mkhuma 59′), Vilakazi (Makgalwa 59′).
