Chippa United claimed an important win in their fight for survival as Baroka and Polokwane City continue to remain in serious danger of suffering relegation back to the Absa Premiership.

Augustine Kwem’s early strike spearheaded the Chilli Boys to a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at Bidvest Stadium in the second of two games on Saturday.

The burly forward slipped the ball past the onrushing Elvis Chipezeze to lead the Chilli Boys to victory and up to 12th place on the log standings, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Defeat leaves Bakgaga in 14th place, a mere point above Limpopo rivals Polokwane City and the drop zone. With games against Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs to come, it paints an ominous picture for the club coached by Dylan Kerr.

Earlier on the day, Peter Shalulile moved to the top of the Absa Premiership scoring charts as Highlands Park came from behind to draw 1-1 with Polokwane City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Namibian forward has now scored 14 goals this season, the same amount as Orlando Pirates’ Gabadinho Mhango. The result moved the Lions of the North up to seventh on the log standings. Rise and Shine jumped above AmaZulu and into 15th spot on goals scored, but remain firmly in the relegation zone.

Polokwane opened the scoring through a Limbikani Mzava own goal.
