AmaZulu will chase a key win in their fight to survive in the Absa Premiership when they host Bloemfontein Celtic at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Monday 24 August 2020, kick-off at 15h30.
AmaZulu suffered a 14th defeat of the season when they were beaten 2-1 at Bidvest Wits on August 21, and they have yet to win since the restart. Usuthu have claimed just 12 points from as many home matches so far this season.
Celtic racked up their first win since the lockdown when they defeated log leaders Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 at home on August 19, with Motebang Sera netting a brace of goals. Phunya Sele Sele have claimed 10 points from 13 away matches in the 2019/20 campaign.
In head-to-head stats, AmaZulu and Celtic have met in 53 league matches since 1985. Phunya Sele Sele have claimed 20 wins compared to 14 for Usuthu, while 19 matches have been drawn. The Durban side has won 11 of their 25 home league matches against the Bloemfontein club, suffering six defeats in the process.
When the teams met earlier this season, at Dr Molemela Stadium in December 2019, AmaZulu claimed a 2-1 away win thanks to goals from Bonginkosi Ntuli and Butholezwe Ncube. It was Usuthu’s first away win in the rivalry since 2008/09.
