Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande says his team is not running scared in the Absa Premiership title race, ahead of a crunch match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday.
Log leaders Chiefs have seen their stranglehold on top spot weaken since the league’s restart earlier this month, and a loss to defending champions Sundowns on Thursday evening would see the teams level on points with three rounds remaining.
The prospect of missing out on the league title from such a strong position in the year of the club’s 50th anniversary is not one the Zimbabwean is even thinking about.
“We are not shaken or moved, we are focused on what is happening in our house and not anyone else’s house,” Katsande told the media, as quoted by Goal.
“We need to focus on ourselves. We know how to play big games and we have shown this in the first round.
“In these types of games, it’s not about who has experience or anything like that, it’s about who wants it more on the day. If they run 3000km then we have to run 5000km.”
When the teams met earlier this season, at Loftus Versfeld in October 2019, Chiefs claimed a 2-0 away win thanks to a brace of goals from striker Samir Nurkovic, who will miss Thursday’s match due to suspension.
Sundowns, meanwhile, have won just once in the last six league meetings of these clubs.
