Zambian midfield Clatous Chama says Tanzanian giants Simba SC must not bask in the glory of their achievements in 2019-20, but instead focus on adding to their legacy of success.
Chama played a key role for Wekundu wa Msimbazi as they claimed the domestic treble of Community Shield, league and FA Cup, with the 29-year-old eventually named the Tanzania Mainland League Most Valuable Player (MVP) as well as the season’s best midfielder.
But the arrival of a new season means Simba must renew their focus, according to Chama.
“We cannot depend on the last season’s anointment and grace, hence, we need to request for them again prior to the [new season],” Chama said as quoted by Daily News.
“I expect a lot from my colleagues especially following the good signings which have been made so far and it is our responsibility to make sure that we make fans happy throughout the next season.”
Simba have shown fine form in pre-season, defeating Vital’O of Burundi as well as local rivals KMC and Transit Camp, and will be hoping to carry that momentum into today’s Community Shield, which sees them clash with Namungo FC.
The Tanzanian giants will also compete in the 2020-21 CAF Champions League, with the start date of the competition yet to be confirmed.
