Nigerian full-back Zaidu Sanusi has completed his transfer to Portuguese champions FC Porto.
The 23-year-old player has joined the Dragons from fellow Primeira Liga side Santa Clara following a successful 2019/20 season in which he played 27 matches and scored one goal.
Sanusi arrived in Portugal in 2016 to play for Gil Vicente, but he was loaned out to Mirandela for two seasons (2016/17 and 2017/18).
In the 2018/19, having signed for Mirandela, Sanusi played 35 matches for the team from Bragança, scoring three goals and putting on good performances, which caught the eye of Santa Clara and he was recalled by his parent club in July 2019.
“Zaidu reinforces FC Porto and signed for five seasons, until 2025,” a club statement read.
The Lagos-born player is looking forward to playing for coach Sérgio Conceição’s side and he is keen to help the team win more trophies ahead of the 2020/21 season.
“I am extremely happy to play for FC Porto. I can’t explain it, but I am thrilled to wear this shirt,” Sanusi said.
“I hope to do a good job and help the team. We are going to win everything this season.
“The club and the fans can expect me to give everything. I received a lot of messages from FC Porto fans, and that made me happy,” he added.
“I still haven’t talked to him, but I’m sure we will talk a lot. From now on, he’s my coach, so we will be talking a lot, I’m sure. I’m extremely motivated to start working.”
Sanusi is yet to present Nigeria at any level and he will be hoping to impress the Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr during his time with Porto.
