Ashanti Gold chief executive officer Emmanuel Frimpong has assured supporters that the club will make Ghana proud in the CAF Confederation Cup.
As a result of the 2019-20 Ghana Premier League season being curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic, the Miners will represent Ghana in the second-tier continental competition for a second successive year.
AshGold failed to make the playoff round of the past season’s competition, exiting 4-3 on aggregate at the hands of Moroccan side RS Berkane, but Frimpong says things will be different this time around.
“We are going to Africa and come back with victory,” he told Kumasi based Sikka FM, as quoted by Football Ghana.
“I am convinced about that. The supporters will understand what we are doing when football fully resumes.
“I am imploring them to support us and we will make them and the country proud.”
Ashanti Gold’s top performance in Africa was finishing as runners-up in the 1997 CAF Champions League (when they were still known as Obuasi Goldfields).
