Cape Town City need only avoid defeat to guarantee a top-half finish in the Absa Premiership, when they host SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday 5 September 2020, kick-off at 15h30.
City suffered their 10th defeat of the season when they were beaten 1-0 at Highlands Park on September 2, though they have a three-point buffer to the bottom half. The Citizens have claimed 27 points from 14 home matches so far this season.
SuperSport kept up their ambition to finish in third place when they thumped strugglers Baroka FC 4-1 at home on September 2, with goals from Thamsanqa Gabuza, Grant Kekana, Bradley Grobler and Kudakwashe Mahachi. Matsatsantsa have claimed 20 points from 14 away matches in the 2019/20 campaign.
In head-to-head stats, City and SuperSport have met in six league matches since the start of the 2016/17 season. The Citizens have claimed two wins compared to one for Matsatsantsa, while four games have ended in draws. The Cape side has recorded one win, one draw and two draws from their three home matches in the rivalry.
When the teams met earlier this season, at the Mbombela Stadium in September 2019, they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Sipho Mbule, Bradley Grobler and Thamsanqa Gabuza netted for SuperSport, while City’s goals were scored by Thabo Nodada (two) and Kermit Erasmus.
