Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp has praised France-born Cameroonian central defender Billy Koumetio as a ‘big talent.’
The 17-year-old player, who has nurtured in French giants Olympique Lyonnais’ academy, has impressed while playing for Liverpool’s’ first team in pre-season.
Having been born in the French city of Lyon to Cameroonian parents, Koutimetio helped the Reds secure a 7-2 win over English side Blackpool FC in a friendly match on Saturday.
The towering player was introduced with the English champions having already conceded twice and he ensured that the team kept a clean sheet in the second-half.
“On whether the game is one Billy Koumetio will learn from… Absolutely. We had some problems in the first half,” Klopp said on the club’s official website.
“[The opening goal] was a pressed ball against a very experienced player, who was stronger at that moment. Billy played superballs, super passes and was there.
“Our last line played [for the] first time together like this, it is completely fine, but we were just not high enough. There were many situations where I thought it must be offside.
“But it wasn’t offside. For one reason at least, it was not offside because we were not really in line. All these things, little things to learn,” he continued.
“But 17 years old, the whole life in front of him, which is really nice. [He is a] big talent and, as I said, he had a few really, really good situations, but in this press ball, it was not so nice.”
Koumetio is a France under-18 international, but he is still eligible to play for Cameroon.
