Former Bafana Bafana international Shaun Bartlett has joined Ernst Middendorp in leaving Kaizer Chiefs.
The Soweto giants confirmed on Thursday that they had agreed to an early termination of the assistant coach’s contact. This comes after the Amakhosi parted ways with former head coach Middendorp following the club’s disappointing end to the 2019/20 season.
Bartlett was appointed on a two-and-a-half year deal alongside Middendorp in December 2018, but their joint effort to end Chiefs’ trophy drought proved unsuccessful.
“We would like to once again thank both gentlemen for their service to Kaizer Chiefs over the last 21 months,” said Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung.
Chiefs entered the final day of the season atop the Absa Premiership standings but lost out on league glory following a 1-1 draw away to Baroka FC at Bidvest Stadium. Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Black Leopards 3-0 at the same time to move to the summit of the standings and subsequently claim a third league crown in succession.
Bartlett, 47, joined Middendorp following head coaching spells at Golden Arrows and University of Pretoria.
