Egypt international Mohamed Salah was delighted after netting a hat-trick in an English Premier League match on Saturday.

The 28-year-old winger inspired Liverpool FC to a 4-3 win over Leeds United at the Anfield Stadium on the opening day of the 2020/21 season.

Salah took great satisfaction in helping the Reds start their Premier League title defence with a victory over the Peacocks.

“Without fans it’s so tough – especially at Anfield, everybody knows that. But it’s a good start for us,” Salah said on the club’s official website.

“A tough team, they press high as well, so the intensity was really high. We had a good game. We shouldn’t have conceded three but this is the game, we have to react for that and we did a good job.

“It’s a tough team, to be fair. They had a great game. There’s no fans but they play, they react really well and they scored three goals against us – that’s huge,” he added.

“I’m happy about the result and we have to keep on improving and try not to concede as many goals.”

Salah became the first Liverpool player to score in four consecutive league openers from 2017/18 to 2020/21, and the second man in Premier League history, after Teddy Sheringham from 1992/93 to 1995/96.

He also became the first player to score a hat-trick for Liverpool in the first league match since John Aldridge achieved this feat against Charlton Athletic in the 1988/89 season.
