DR Congo defender Marcel Tisserand says he wants to help Fenerbahce win the Turkish Super Lig title and return to the UEFA Champions League.
The 27-year-old joined the Istanbul side on a three-year contract (with the option for an additional year) this week, signing from German Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.
The former Monaco, Lens, Toulouse and Ingolstadt player joins Garry Rodrigues (Cape Verde), Mame Thiam (Senegal) and Nabil Dirar (Morocco) as African players on Fener’s roster.
The 19-time Turkish league champions endured a disappointing campaign in 2019-20, managing only a seventh-place finish on the log.
Tisserand is hopeful that he can help play a role in taking Fenerbahce back to the summit of the Super Lig, as well as into premier European competition.
“It is a very good day for me. I’ve wanted to come to Fenerbahce for a long time,” Tisserand told his new club’s official website.
“We had very nice meetings. I am very enthusiastic. I am sure I will contribute to this team. I am very happy.
“Whoever knows me knows that I am a very ambitious player. I am a football player who wants to win every match that’s why I came to Fenerbahce, to the right club.
“We have a goal to make the fans happy; to first, reclaim the championship and play the Champions League.”
Tisserand will hope to make his debut for Fenerbahce when they host Hatayspor in the second round of the 2020-21 Super Lig next Monday, September 21.
