New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt has revealed the reasoning behind his decision to take up the head coaching position at the Soweto club.

Hunt officially took over the Amakhosi reins this week after the Glamour Boys parted ways with Ernst Middendorp following their failure to win the 2019/20 Absa Premiership title.

The 56-year-old South African brings with him bags full of experience to Naturna having won four top-flight league titles at two different clubs. Hunt started his coaching career at Seven Stars in 1995 following a successful playing career.

“Thank you very much. It is all of a sudden thing and it is a privilege and honour to be here. Obviously in football, it is all about timing,” said Hunt as quoted by Chiefs. “Our Club [Bidvest Wits] was sold and there was an opportunity. I am excited to get working and see the capacity of the squad,”

“I took this job because it was very professionally handled by a very professional club. It’s been a real eye opener, first time I have been in Naturena in all the years, I have never been here all my life. To come here and see the setup it is really up there with the standards of world football. I have been around the world and this is really impressive.”

Hunt joins Chiefs after seven years at Wits. The Clever Boys’ top-flight status was bought by Limpopo businessman and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila owner, Masala Mulaudzi.
